NEW YEAR, NEW SOAP..... Here are the 2008 Soapbox comments. AD8J John Getz Some GA ops have a bad habit of not signing their calls on a regular basis.
CU2JT Gary Wikstrom My aim was to work at least 100 counties and the hectic last hour of the contest made the century possible. I bet Paul, N4PN, had a very busy last half hour, sending out exchanges at about 45 wpm. I noticed that, except for the usual suspects, there were a couple of new Europeans this year. Without a serial number, it is hard to tell how successful they were but I always had to wait for my turn even on 40 meters and I am not used to that. Anyway, I surpassed my result from last year. And I had a lot of fun. See you next year ! Rig: Kenwood TS-570D, ACOM-1000 amp, 2 x 66ft inverted vee up 50 ft with a 600 ohm feeder to a MFJ-962D tuner. E-MAIL: garwik@yahoo.com
DL3DXX Dietmar Kasper Was at OZ DX meeting in Denmark that weekend. came back Sunday afternoon to join the end of the party thank you for all contacts. Cu next year !
DL3GA Andreas Gille Condx allowed almost no QSOs on saturday, glad to work many more stations on sunday. DX hopes for more solar activity next year.
DL8USA Wolfgang Prufert fine contest every year, but to bad propagations, see you next year...
G3LHJ Derrick Webber Condx poor - think I work all I could hear, not many big signals about except for W4HYB & K1ZZI cu next year god willing - 73 de Derrick.
HA2MN TIBOR (TIBI) ZENTAI GAQP is always a great challenge. This year was especially that due to a very poor propagation. 1st day I waited 2 hours to complete the very first QSO. I was to give it up after calling a GA station for an hour (that one was heard only) and then the band opened. So what a relief: I was in. Later on I collected five other stations from GA while no other part of US was heard at all. Sunday proved to be a bit better. GA operators have pretty good ears to pick my weak signals up in difficult circumstances (btw: it is not a news to me). I do hope that next year we are over these sunspot minimum years and much more contacts and counties can be logged. Thanks for Qs, see you next year! Rig TS-530SP 100 W into a end-fed 21 mtrs long wire above flat roof.
K0FX Donald Weiss Thanks to the sponsers for a great QSO party. Look
K0GSV Rich Zysk Great contest !! Lot of mobiles--thanks guys
K0JPL Paul L. Haefner, K0JPL TNX to all the mobile stations. Kept things moving.
K0MPH Roger Roth Export from Logger32 - Paper logging is easier
K1DAN Daniel G. Martin I only decided to work a few GA counties at the last minute, and did not record the counties I worked, but it was fun.
K1DG
K1ESE John Huffman Lots of fun. Thanks to all, especially the rovers! 73 de K1ESE John
K1SO Jerry Haislip Just had a few minutes this year but next year hope to go full scale
K2UFT DICK BENTLEY E-MAIL:
K3TW Thomas J. Warren "Many thanks for sponsoring a great QSO Party, and congratulations to the many mobile stations for activating some rare counties. The pile-ups were unbelievable!"
K3TW Thomas J. Warren "Thanks for sponsoring a great QSO Party. (PH only log) "
K4AEK James R. Schliestett Sr.
Had limited operating time.
K4EOR George Averill Thanks. Antenna had problems on 80 & 40
K4GAM George A Marsh Jr Great contest look forward to next year
K4HYB Rick Dougherty Ops were- NQ4I,KF4GTA,AB4HQ,K4NV,KD4ONL,WI4R,N4EEB,KG4CUT,WA4ILO,WY4N
K4JPC Robert Ricchiuti Had a lot of fun with the GA QSO Party this year.
K4KYO Tony Stalls I did have fun with the GQP that day.
K4MSH SHANE HESTER FIRST GAQP AND I HAD A BLAST, WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK NEXT YEAR
K4PBY Chuck Jones A great contest--really enjoyed it. Thanks to all the organizers. Rig here was a TenTec Argonaut V running QRP 5 wts to a inv vee ant. 73-Chuck
K4QD Jan A. Heise This was my first time to enter the GQP. I was happy to see a lot of activity. My modest station worked well. I used a G5RV at 40 feet which worked well between FL and GA. Rig was IC-7000 with ALS-600 running abOut 300 watts.
K4XU Dick Frey Thanks for running a great contest. You guys can muster more mobiles than we can May 3. See y'all then! 73, Dick
K8CQ Jeff Lackey I did not plan to participate. Learned of party on Friday from SE Division email and discovered how rare Glynn County is. Boy was I in for a surprise. The pile ups were unbelievable at times. I log by paper and pencil and no computerized or keyboard operation at this location. So it was slug it out. But even with my arthritic fist I managed about 300 QSOs in 8 hours of operation. CC&R restrictions force use of aluminum rain gutter for the antenna with 100 watts of power. Use SGC-237 for tuning network. Even with these limitations, I heard more than I could work. I'm glad people were patient as I pulled them out as fast as I could. But I did manage 42 states, 6 provinces and several DX QSOs. It was a lot of fun. I'll try to get on next year with better preparation. I'll gladly QSL for Glynn Co or IOTA NA-058. 73, Jeff K8CQ
K8IR James R. Callow Made a few QSO's between finishing my taxes and getting the mobile ready for MIQP.
K8MR Jim Stahl Big pileups on the mobiles, maybe I should have gone high power.
K8NWD Timothy R Pepper Enjoyed the QSO Party and will be back next year. Ran the Elecraft K2 and an 80 meter extended double zepp up 85 feet.
K9PUP Tony Stalls I looked K4BG up on QRZ.com and when I saw he breeds Shelties, I went back into the shack and called him back.
KA3DRR Scot R. Morrison Thanks W4AN/M AND W4NZ/M for the mobile QSOs!
KB1ODO Andy Toce Jr. Band conditions not good from Vermont, but still had a great time.
KB4KBS Scott Straw My first ever Rover effort; lots of lessons learned - too many to list here (but watch for the installments on the SECC reflector over the next few days). I had the best chauffeur in the world. Sitting in the back seat of my wife's mini-van working the radio while she deftly navigated my poorly annotated route allowed me to make the most of my rover efforts in FORS, CHER, DAWS, LUMP, UNIO, FANN, GILM, PICK, and CHER (again). A Shout-out goes to ZF1DX (Hey to Vern!), and the incredible ears of N0BSA in CO, VE4EAR in MB (appropriate call sign) KE1WI in ME, and N0SMA in KS. Also a big thank you to my "entourage" that accompanied me along my journey. Appearing in my log 5x are AA3B, N1GKX, and WD9EJK. 4-baggers are WA3HAE, W1WIU, and K1IF. There are probably more triples than singles, and quite a few doubles as well. I hope that I was able to help you in your quest for the elusive 159, thank you for my 30!
KB7N Mark Reisenauer Thank you for another operating event.
KB8FZY steven k. riggs great get it
KB9YGD Norman P.Triantafilos tnx agn fer another wonderfull gaqp es 73 de kb9ygd
KC0YDZ Robert B. Preston it was fun!
KC4HW Jim Johnson Counties: EARLY, SEMINOLE, DECATUR, GRADY,THOMAS, BROOK, LOWNDES, LANIER, BERRIER, COOK, COLQUITT, MITCHELL, BAKER, MILLER, and EARLY. Ms Bonnie was my driver and we covered 363 miles. Only worked 40m. Tried 20m about mid day, but could only hear a couple of weak stations. We operated about 7 hours give or take. Sorry about all the ? but 40m was very noisey coming across US84 going East as well as the return route going West. Lots of stations calling, sorry that I missed so many of you! Thanks for tolerating my poor CW, but it is getting better.
Thanks for the QSOs.
73, Jim/KC4HW
KC4YBO Steve Knittel Have written Cabrillo file with cover sheet. Let's see if I did it right.
KD2MX Paul Neuman Limited time to participate this year. See you again in '09.
KD5JHE Jerry Mcgregor Sure enjoyed the QSO Party
KD8GOX KARL SEPER Thanks for running a fun qso party. I enjoyed working rovers around the state and fixed stations. Attached is my cabrillo log for the party and an excel spreadsheet for calculating the claimed score. This is my first “contest” so please look over the entry – tried not to make any multiplier mistakes – but… For whatever reason, my logging program or my ability to use the logging program did not export a county report with the log. The attached xl spreadsheet contains that info. Thanks let me know if you need me to re-submit. Claimed score is 1104
KE0G Dan Alwin Bands were weak from MN, so my hat's off to you fine op's who copied SOAPBOX: my QRP signal! KE0G
KG4W ED HUGHES Enjoyed the party, planned on CW only but went mixed. Va & Ga tooo close for anything above 7mhz. Only 20m was K4HYB on cw.. 73 de Ed
KG9JP K.C. Ross Had fun handing out some points from Phoenix Intl Raceway before the Nascar event here.
KI4PPI Richard D. Bowles This is for the Georgia QSO Party (GQP) Multi-Operator. (MS)(LP)(PH)
KJ4P Maynard (Mac) Waters Great QSO Party! I had a great time. I had one CW contact which is included
KJ80 Joseph B. Miller I got off to a very late start, and the 40 meter band opening about 2 hours before the end of the party was quite thrilling. Looking forward to next year.
KK4PQ David Furman Had some great pileups, had some song dry spells. Bands seemed sporatic, but did manage to Soapbox: pull out lots of Qs, even a few on 160. (Tough for QRP!) 73, Dave KK4PQ
KN4Y Edward Palagyi Great weekend for a Rover, enjoyed it.
KT4MM J. Cummings
KW3A Steve Forst Didn't get much time in this year. Tnx for running a nice contest.
73, Steve KW3A
N1NN Roger A. Hentershee 2ND GEORGIA QSO PARTY
N3KN KAY CRAIGIE This was great fun for a Georgian now living in Virginia. 73 - Kay N3KN
N3KUN Michael Hasel Nice weekend, enjoyed the chance to work into GA
N3TEE Shawn Rullens From Rare Delaware
N3TG William T. Free I enjoyed it immensely and picked up a few new counties, too!
N4ARO DICK CHURCH
N4GG Hal Kennedy Great fun and a great turnout. Congrats to the publicity folks who did a great job. Condx were okay, but noisy on the first night. The winds on the second day played havoc here with the wire antennas and kept me off 80 meters unfortunately. Can't wait until next year. Hal N4GG
N4GWA Scott Spencer We had a great time. Thanks for running another great contest!
N4JF JERRY FIORE HAD FUN,JUST TOO CLOSE TO GA..DID NOT WK ANY MOBILES 73s JERRY
N4PN PAUL H. NEWBERRY, JR. BALDWIN COUNTY
N4TOL John Tramontanis First time in GQP - great time
N4UJ Thomas Blackburn I had not planned to formally enter the Georgia QSO Party. I think my last formal entry may have been 1964 when I operated from my aunt's house at Conyers. Here goes: 18 Contacts. Equipment--- Transmitter: Central 100V Broadband Exciter at 100w. Receiver: National HRO-60T Antenna: "G5RV" Class- Old Dude/Old Gear
N5VI Van Richardson "Tent" mobile in Berrien County. Began the contest with a 2.5 hour rain delay. Very rainy, humid and cold along with lots of bugs on Saturday afternoon and night. I'm writing a letter to the OFF people...somebody needs to tell these Berrien county bugs what OFF is supposed to do. I Packed so much camping, ham and miscellaneous gear (don't forget two days worth of food) in the car, I couldn't operate mobile while waiting for the rain to stop because the radios were on the bottom of the very large pile in the back of my seemingly very small Saturn Vue SUV. At last it quit raining and I got everything out of the car, and of course, it began raining again. Lots of gear got soaked, to include some ham gear!! Lessons learned were numerous for a novice camper like me in preparation for next year. Only operated about 1/5 of available operating time. Could have easily quadrupled or even more the number of QSOs had I known then what I learned as a result of this experience.
"Tent" mobile. This log was created after campground "quiet" hours Saturday night. That meant no generator and only this old Win 95 laptop computer would work without AC power. Somehow the battery lasted one hour and 25 minutes which is the same amount of time the trolling motor battery lasted that ran the radio. I was in a great pileup when the batteries decided they'd done all they could. I know what you're thinking, why didn't I use the car battery? I Couldn't, but that's another story.
Ventured about 2 miles from my "tent" Berrien County temporary QTH to a Tift County location. Some neighbor campers kept an eye out while I was gone. The 20 meter ham stick didn't work so I strung up a spare dipole in the pecan tree orchard close to where I was parked. The 40 meter Ham Stick worked great. Couldn't stay long because I had to pack up the wet gear at the camp site and drive 3.5 hours back home and show up to work on Monday morning without being totally exhausted.
N8NA KARL E GRUNEWALD Lots of fun to hear the mobiles, wish I had more time or there were a few fewer counties. See you next year.
N9FN Dave Chasey Gee, is there a certificate for single band, SSB only, out of state mobile from Indiana? :-) 73 & look for me in MiQP next weekend, and INQP two weeks later. - Dave - N9FN/M
NA4O Mark Hopkins Challenging band conditions both days. Almost impossible to hear most of the GA counties, and many I could hear could not hear me. Strung up an NVIS antenna on Sunday, but that did not help. Even so, I enjoyed the party and beat my last year's score!
ND4V Mike Weathers This contest just keeps getting better and better even if conditions don't.
Thanks to everyone for the Q's.
NE4M Richard Broughton There sure are a lot of counties in Georgia! Had a great time.-
NE4S Mike Condon Home log-- Sunday conditions same as when out as rover yesterday… no propagation, but great participation on low bands.
NE4S Mike Condon Rover Log - It was a great ride in N Georgia. 40M was the only band that worked, Sol was not awake yet. Thanks to all for joining in. --Mike
NF4A Charles Wooten Only 2 QSOs on 20 meters. 40 was too long most of the time to hear the mobiles reliably. Also dealing with line noise at the new QTH. Had a great time inspite of all those things!
NF4GA Jim Stafford Driver was WB4MAK. He did not operate.
NG3O William Corley My log for the GQP is so pitiful, I would never have thought to submit it, but since you asked, here it is. Maybe I'll win for my zipcode!
NG7Z PAUL BERINGER Saturday was a georgous day here in the Pacific Northwest. I just couldn't justify sitting at the radio all day when it was such a good opportunity to do some needed work on my property. But I did pop in and out of the shack to check up on the bands several times. The mobiles were very weak here. 40M was much better after 7pm local and got them a few times. Sure wish the sunspots would come back soon. Thanks for the q's and will be back next year.
NM2L Greg Potter Without Jim's hospitality, equipment and spotting help I sure wouldn't have much of a score.
NO2D Peter Inskeep Lots of fun. Lots of strong stations.Lots of pile-ups. Wish I had a template of what this log should look like. Amazed at how well QRP and a dipole got through both days.
NO5W Charles W Sanders Conditions were not good between most of GA and Houston this weekend. Heard only two signals on 20M and signals on 40M were in general very weak. And I must have been really weak as I've got lots of CQs on my face. But some stations including W4AN and N4PN came back on the first or second call. It was tough staying with it here as the weather was fantastic and, from the Masters on TV, it looked like weather over in GA was also nice for all the rovers that were out and about. Thanks to all the mobiles for keeping it interesting. Looking forward to taking to
73/Chuck
NY4N JEFF AND BECKY CLARK The N3FJP software you suggested work wonderful. Let me know if you need anything else. To be sure, we were single op (with driver), low power, rover mobile CW only.
OK1CF Karel Matousek I hope for more seriously participation next year.
OM2VL Leslie Vegh Thanks for the nice contest and a lot of new counties for me. I am beginning my County hunting only some month ago and I have confirmed 770 county. I had worked with over 18000 US stations, but I must checked all QSOs and found on QRZ the county - very very hard work, hi...... /there are any database US stations/state/count? For example NE4S/GA/Cobb/
PA3ARM Harry van Enckevort Try to be competitive wid wire ant only es 100W. Only /m stn hrd was NY4N fer abt 5mts! We really need sunspots! Cannot remember condx were that worse since 1999 when I first particippated. (it was mi 8th GAQP). Spent in total only 1 hr behind the radio so never tried 40m: not in the mood. Still need 7 counties fer mi USA-CA but will participate fer the contest as well "forever" 73 Harry
VA3NQ Gilbert Prevost Great fun and worked several new counties for USA-CA Award. Thanks and see you next year.

W4RKV Mitch Clemons Nice contest, counties well represented. W4AN had an outstanding sig everywhere he ran.
W5CT JOE BARR THANKS FOR THE FUN!
W5EPW Bill Gearhiser first use of SD -- good stuff
W5LE Leslie E. (Gene) Lewis I don't know who invited Murphy but he was most definitely along for the ride! I want to thank my dear friend Dave, K4SSU, for agreeing to be a part of the insanity.
W7KAM Richard Palmer Good contest this year!
W8IQ Kurt Meyers Now to finished my taxes!
W8KNO JOSEPH L. WEHNER Georgia was the activity central for the weekend with the QSO Party and the Masters, played a little on the radio and watched a lot of television. Still was able to make contacts with 12 counties I do not have confirmed. The QSO Party was a success!
WA1FCN robert beaudoin Gosh but this is a tough one from the border state of Alabama. Had to wait for pauses to get anywhere.
WA4UJY Joseph Totter I only operated 7 hours but had a great time!
WB4SQ Gary McConville Bad sinus pain prevented cw operations and much phone.
WB6TMY WARREN "TR" REESE This is my "first ever" attempt at contesting. Please let me know if this submission in Cabrillo is correct, and if not, what should I do? Thanks! (-It was fine, a tweak or two…)
WB8JUI Rick Carrier Who needs sunspots to have fun!
WB9CIF Mark E. Musick Thanks for the reminder Mike. I totally forgot abt it. So here it is. If all the guys confirm the new GA counties I'll be down to 13 to have SOAPBOX: all GA counties. Thanks for a great QSO party. CU next year.
WE4S Grady Donaldson Another great Georgia QSO Party! A big thanks to all the contest organizers! What a blast! Ed, Shane, and myself set a goal to break 100K and beat our total qso's from last year. After 19 hours we not only beat the old score by 30k points we surpassed last years qso's by 200 q's! Over 500 contacts on Saturday, and a lot of work on Sunday to get 300 contacts. Wished 20M was open more... All antennas performed very well and even with 100W it was lots of fun. Ed worked SSB by himself, while Shane and I worked CW. A big thanks to all those that were in the contest. We'll see y'all again in 2009!!!! Entry Type: Multi-Operator Single-Transmitter, Low Power, All Modes, All Bands
WF4W R. L. "Tad" Williamson Not as good as I hoped but better than my goal of 400 Qs. Worked all but 3 states (AK, HI and SD). Had a few Europeans call me and EL2DX was a pleasant surprise. Was working "Tent" portable from Seminole county in a state park. Used an FT-2000 and an OCF dipole up about 40 feet. I'll probably pick a different "less-operated-from" county next year.
WI8A ROD BALLARD tnx guys a nice contest - those mobiles were amazing a
ZS1EL Vidi la Grange I took part in the GQP from Augusta in 2007, using my call K1VL and tried this fun event from home this year. Unfortunately conditions were not favorable, but hopefully good enough for a country award!
